Leadership Skills - Module 1
(Depending on the skills
level of delegates, this is a one- or two-day programme)
This programme is suited to
delegates that are working as team leaders or who manage or supervise workflow
or an admin function and have had limited exposure to supervisory or management
skills. During training an assessment will be made regarding what other
management skills development may be necessary for individual delegates. During
the training we look at various definitions of LEADERSHIP the following
is only one of these definitions:
-
A leader is one who
walks ahead to prepare the way for those who follow.
-
Because the leader
walks ahead, the leader often sees the pitfalls first and must remain calm
and in control so as not to cause panic amongst those who do not have a
clear view of what lies ahead.
-
There are also pitfalls
behind and to the side so the leader must ensure that everyone in the team
is alert and skilled.
-
A leader must have keen
eyes that can look ahead and sharp ears that hear signals from behind.
-
A leader must be able
to inspire trust so team members can follow without fear.
-
A leader must look back
regularly to ensure that he or she is not walking alone.
-
A leader must be
skilled in helping the stragglers keep up with the rest of the team.
-
A leader must make sure
there is a contingency plan in place when he or she is not able to take the
leadership role.
